We all met in Tunis a day before starting the workshop, it was great to see Anna, Maude, David, Ahmed and Rose again! Then we spent Sunday and Monday exploring the capital. We concentrated mostly on the city centre and the nearby centuries old medina. After two intense days, on Tuesday morning we drove 70km north to the coastal city of Bizerte to spend two nights there. We stayed in an atmospheric old beach resort located strategically near the medina, so we could explore the town on foot. Bizerte is known for its picturesque old port, the medina and the walled fortress (Kasbah). Then we travelled 220km south to Sousse, another coastal city, where we stayed for three nights in an atmospheric hotel on the edge of the medina. There we explored the markets and residential areas of the medina and also spent some time in the new city and its lively seaside promenade along the Bou Jaafar Beach. On Sunday morning we ventured to the exciting weekly flea market. After that we took a short ride 55km west to historical Kairouan for two nights. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major pilgrimage site for Muslims, famous for its mosques inside the centuries old medina. Our final destination was a working city of Sfax 140km south. We spent three nights there exploring the large and genuine medina, bustling markets and residential quarters. Then we drove 270km north back to Tunis for the last two nights. There, on Saturday afternoon we went to La Goulette district – the city’s historic port, where we visited the atmospheric streets, the beach and the promenade. We spent Sunday, our last day, on finishing reviewing remaining pictures and then selecting the best photos of the second week. After lunch we went to the picturesque little town of Sidi Bou Said just north of Tunis where we spent our last afternoon. What a great trip! See yourself in the photos below.
The next workshop in Tunisia will take place in May 2023, see the workshop page for details: www.maciejdakowicz.com/photography-workshops/.
