Street photography and daily life pictures from Yangon, Myanmar.
Yangon (previously known as Rangoon) used to be the capital of Myanmar, until Nay Pyi Taw took over its role in 2005. It is still the largest city in the country with a population of over 7 million. It used to be a quiet South East Asian metropolis, but times are changing. Burmese economy is growing and the city is booming. The streets are congested with countless cars, construction sites are everywhere, modern shopping malls, shops and stylish cafes appear in every neighbourhood. Luckily old Yangon is still there – traditional markets, old Buddhist temples, historical buildings and streets with lots of character. Also people are still calm, kind, polite and charming. Women still decorate their cheeks with thanaka and men wear longyi. Let’s hope it stays this way for a long time.
All photos were taken during several visits to this fascinating city between 2012 and 2019.
The gallery is under development as I have many more photos to share. Stay tuned for updates.
