Varanasi, India

Varanasi – one of the world’s oldest cities and the holiest Indian town.
Peaceful and spiritual ghats on the Ganges, magical narrow lanes of the Old City, hectic main roads… A place where religious Hindu pilgrims, real and not so real holy men, alert photo babas, rushing rickshaw drivers, enterprising souvenir sellers, short-memoried 10-rupees-massage men, hopeful boatmen, hungry pigeons, sleepy dogs, crazy monkeys and holy cows find a way to coexist in a very special way with all foreign tourists who have been flocking to Varanasi for decades to experience the mystery and spirituality of India. Ah, let’s not forget about a very chilled and patient local population who deals with all this colour on a daily basis.

One of my favourite places in the world. I keep on coming back there.

Photos from my numerous visits to this fascinating city between 2007 and 2017. A perfect place for street photography and daily life witnessing.
