Bo on the first day of the workshop. Our first visit to Eminonu, near Galata Bridge. The crowds were overwhelming on that day, it was a real challenge but also a great practising ground. We returned to that place several more times each time getting better photos.

The last night of the workshop at our apartment. Everybody is preparing photos from the whole week for the final selection of best photos. After a week of shooting and daily critique sessions each student had a solid selection of around 50 good photos. On that last night we went though all these and picked 10-12 strongest images. We finished at 2am!

Pre-workshop Information

Workshops Description

Both workshops are organised and run by Maciej Dakowicz. Each is intended for four participants only. They are mostly practical in application, as the participants will be shooting regularly with the tutor on one-on-one basis to learn Maciej tricks and techniques, and receive feedback on their work. Shooting in pairs with no large group shootings eliminates the common problem of other workshops where there are too many people trying to shoot the same subject. Each day will begin with breakfast where shooting plans will be discussed and later groups will meet for lunch, where some preliminary reviews and exchange pairings for the afternoon session will take place. At the end of each evening, there will be detailed editing, critique and feedback sessions, followed often by more informal discussions over supper and drinks. During the week Maciej will give presentations discussing street photography and practical aspects of it. There will also be a night or two of shooting after dark.

Costs

The participants of the workshops are responsible for all travel costs, including the visa, air tickets, food, accommodation and local transport. The group will stay at the same accommodation – in a large shared apartment. Luckily Istanbul is still a rather affordable place to be.

Tutors

Maciej Dakowicz is a widely published and exhibited photographer. He is the author of ‘Cardiff After Dark’ published by Thames and Hudson and one of the photographers profiled in their bestseller ‘Street Photography Now’. Maciej is the newest member of the prestigeous international collective of street photographers In-Public.
