A photo I took of a newborn child of Mr Mahendra and Mrs Mrunal Bandivadekar at the Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital in Mumbai on Monday, the 22nd of July ended up today as a double page spread in the 31st issue of the German Stern Magazine published on the 25th of July 2013. The baby was born on the same day as the child of Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. The photo is a part of a 11-page photo story about children born in various countries on the same day as “the Royal Baby”.
I got this assignment more that a week ago and waited day after day checking the news for the Royal Baby to be born. Meanwhile I visited several hospitals in Mumbai, dealt with some proper Indian bureaucracy and finally got a permission from the Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital to return there to photograph some newborn babies on the same day the Royal Baby was going to be born. When finally the news broke about Kate being rushed to the hospital in London I rushed with my camera to my friendly hospital to see what new babies were born on that day, meet the families, photograph and interview them…
Here is the spread from a pdf sent to me:
and here is the original photo:
The colours seems different, but I guess it is an issue with the pdf that was sent to me. I am pretty sure the image looks good in the printed magazine, as it looks good in the magazine preview available online: http://www.stern.de/magazin/heft/stern-nr-31-2572013-die-tricks-der-optiker-2041801.html.
It was my first assignment for Stern Magazine and I hope more will follow.
